The Tech Bubble #5: it's alright to not be unique
Everybody is looking for the next Google, but it's much more likely to see some success by entering a market that is already validated
🧠 Startup Wisdom
Most people who want to create a startup try to invent something brand new, original, unique in the world, hoping to make it big from the get go. But that’s not how it works. Instead, they should get into a market that already has some competition, because competition means validation. It is enough to create another competitor in that market, grab a slice for yourself, and see where you go from there. That’s only when differentiation can begin.
🏆 Indie Highlights
- GenValues (https://genvalues.com/), a recruitement platform that matches talent with jobs, currently making 14k USD per month in revenue. How I see it, is that they capitalized on the downfall of the tech job market, so the demand for jobs is higher from the people looking for work, and for companies, with regular job postings, the application noise is too big. So this solution that matches talent with job posts came into the market as a glove.
- SolidGigs (https://solidgigs.com/), a gig finder for freelancers, that searches various sources and sends you available gigs, so you don’t have to keep searching. It is currently making ~7500 USD per month, so it is definitely something people want and need. If it helps them make money, they you make money, the classic B2B formula.
✈️ My Journey
- Quest of the Hero: I think my artist ghosted me, although they had some progress done. I will have to start searching for a new one and unlock the game development.
- The Tech Bubble: actually I lost a subscriber, so I guess I officially have churn. I’ll probably have to start promoting it more, but honestly, it’s just a passion project I am doing, and not something that I look to grow very much very quickly.
- I am back exploring some indie hacking projects, and I’m looking into getting into doing an MVP probably in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Subscribe to see what it is about and how it goes :)
